What We Offer

Everything you need for the placement.

Your package is designed to remove the logistics, so you can focus on the placement, the people you'll meet, and the training itself.

Your Itinerary

A week-by-week look at the placements, training and cultural experiences that make up the trip.

Week 01

Arrival in Sri Lanka

  • Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, transfer to accommodation
  • Day at leisure

Samutthāna

  • Orientation session followed by lunch
  • Workshop on Mental Health & Wellbeing — Dr Kavinda De Silva

Lankadhara Care Home

  • Volunteering with staff and children in care, engaging in recreational and daily activities

Cultural Tour

  • Visits to a Buddhist temple, Hindu kovil, mosque and Catholic church — a look at Sri Lanka's spiritual diversity

Samutthāna

  • Workshop on practitioner burnout — Dr Nathalie Panabokke
  • Lunch and group discussion

Day at Leisure & Rest Day

  • Free time to explore Colombo at your own pace
Week 02

MJF Charitable Foundation

  • Full day at the school for children with special needs — engaging with students, daily activities and families

Samutthāna

  • Yoga and wellness activity
  • Suicide Gatekeeper Training — Mr Nivendra Uduman, certified by the QPR Institute, USA

Shopping / Sightseeing

  • Exploring the city of Colombo at leisure

Depart to Kandy

  • En route: Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Saradiyel Village, for a taste of rural village life

Kandy — Sightseeing & Kandy General Hospital

  • Temple of the Tooth Relic and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
  • Full-day visit and volunteer work at the mental health unit, Kandy General Hospital

Child Action Lanka

  • Full-day volunteering with orphans and street children in daily field activities

Depart to Galle

  • Travel to the southern coast for the final week
Week 03

Explore Galle

  • The historic Galle Fort and the golden beaches of Galle

Sun, Sea & Sand

  • A full day of rest and relaxation on the coast

Return to Colombo

  • En route: visit to a turtle hatchery

National Institute of Mental Health

  • Visit to the NIMH external facility, followed by lunch
  • Wrap-up discussion with the Samutthāna team

Farewell

  • Reflective presentation and farewell dinner

Day at Leisure & Departure

  • Free time, then departure to Bandaranaike International Airport
